Casting Procedure for Featured Solos/Duets and Groups
Roles for featured solos and groups will be assigned by the Artistic Director with input from the LSA Coaching Staff based on the following criteria (not in any particular order): Moves, Free Skate and Dance test level(s), competitive record, interpretative skating ability, performance experience, prior Nutcracker roles, age, size, costumes, ability to work with others and follow instructions, and makeup of the entire cast.
Skaters who have passed the Intermediate FS test or who are competing in a qualifying level at the Regional or Sectional Championships qualify for a solo. Other skaters who are competing at the Pre-Juvenile Well Balanced level or who have passed Novice MIF and either the Juvenile FS test or Silver Dance test or are a High School Senior will be considered for a solo. LSA does not ensure that casting will follow this same procedure in subsequent years.Featured groups will be choreographed during standard Nutcracker rehearsal times–see below for details. Featured solos and duets will be choreographed during private lesson time; however, soloists and duet members may be required to attend group rehearsals, if such roles include interaction with featured groups or production numbers. It is the soloists’ responsibility to follow up with the coaching staff to see if their attendance is necessary
Roles will be posted at www.nutcrackeronice.com no later than October 23, 2017.
In addition to the featured roles (solos, small groups, and groups), we will have 8 production numbers. There is a $21 fee for each production number. You may sign up for a maximum of four (4) production numbers for which you are eligible.
- Introductory (Soldier Gifts): Open to skaters 10 and under who have passed at least Basic 6, or rostered members of the Beginner Synchronized Skating team, or by invitation.

Saturday 11/11 6:00 – 8:20 am
Saturday 11/18 6:00 – 8:20 am

Saturday 12/9 6:00 – 8:20 am
Friday 12/15 3:30 – 8:30 pm (FULL DRESS REHEARSAL)
* Gingerbreads will rehearse either Mondays or Wednesdays 7:10-7:30 pm (skater’s choice) instead of the above listed rehearsal times, beginning November 6/8, but will be required to attend the two dress rehearsals.
** We exhausted all possibilities for every possible date for dress rehearsal, but with the challenges due to synchro competition the following weekend, regionals being incredibly late this season, nationals being early this season, final exam schedules, and the rink having no available ice during the week until after 11:30 pm and no available ice at all on other weekends, we have chosen the best date out of the worst options. We will all work together to do the best we can. We recognize that some people may have already made travel plans, but we encourage you to make your best effort to make it back for this important part of our production.
A regular rehearsal schedule with specific times for each group will be posted after registrations have been received and casting has been completed, but skaters should expect to be available for the full time each rehearsal, unless otherwise noted. Dress warmly!
Please note: More on and/or off-ice rehearsals may be added for certain numbers, as needed. On-ice rehearsals may be held for certain small groups during LSA free skate sessions, if necessary, and possibly at additional cost to the skater (costs such as fees for free skate session(s) and private coaching). Please communicate with your group members and your group´s coach to coordinate any such practices, if needed.
Individual registration is $108.00 for the first skater and includes a DVD of the performance at no extra charge. Each additional skater´s registration is $77. Additional DVD´s ($30) may be purchased through the registration. Gingerbread registration is $77 and includes one DVD. Please see www.nutcrackeronice.com for the link for Gingerbread registration.
Each production number is an additional $21.00. Limit of four (4) production numbers per skater.
Fee helps cover ice costs, coaching fees, music editing, costumes, set costs, etc. While some costume expenses are embedded in the registration, skaters are required to purchase items such as tights, leotards, etc. Featured soloists and small groups supply their own costumes but must have written approval of artistic director and costume committee. All other costumes will remain LSA property.
Nutcracker on Ice Administrative Assistant
As part of the Board of Directors’ strategic plan for LSA, NOI Review Committee, with approval by the Executive Committee, has designed the role of Nutcracker on Ice Administrative Assistant. This position is designed to assist committee chairs with their duties, to help communicate issues or concerns to the Artistic Director, and to support communications with skaters and parents. LSA is excited to announce that this year’s Nutcracker on Ice Administrative Assistant will be Luiza Hagan. If you have questions or concerns about the production, you can contact Luiza at firstname.lastname@example.org or Sarah at email@example.com or 819-7751.
